Do mini splits heat as well as cool?
Yes, all modern mini splits are heat pumps that cool and heat. In San Diego's mild climate, heat performance is excellent year-round, you will not need backup heat for a well-sized system.
Can I install a mini split myself?
DIY kits exist, but refrigerant handling is EPA-regulated, a bad flare will leak and fail within a year, and warranty coverage is forfeited without a properly licensed install. A professional install done right the first time costs less than fixing a failed DIY job.
